A light-sensitive solution is applied to a surface (paper, fabric), allowed to dry, then exposed to sunlight (UV light) while covered with objects or negatives.  The print is washed in water to stop the reaction, oxidizing the chemicals into a stable, insoluble "Prussian blue" pigment.
